WASHINGTON – The United States government has imposed sanctions on two Mexican individuals and nine entities. Officials state these entities and individuals operate in fuel theft and maintain links to the Cártel de Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG), which the Trump Administration designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization. Thomas "Tommy" Pigott, a spokesperson, provided details today, June 30, 2026. He stated that the U.S. Treasury's action highlights the CJNG's involvement in Mexico's petroleum and petrochemicals sector. Officials describe this involvement as posing a threat to both legitimate U.S. businesses and the U.S. financial system. The U.S. government implemented these actions under Executive Order (E.O.) 13224, as amended. This authority targets counterterrorism efforts. Additionally, officials cited E.O. 14059, which addresses the international proliferation of illicit drugs and their production methods. The Treasury Department has released further information regarding these sanctions.Related Topics
