Callaway City Commissioners finalized the Fiscal Year 2026/27 budget and adopted the corresponding ad valorem tax rate yesterday, September 17, 2026, during a public hearing at the Callaway Arts & Conference Center. The meeting saw the approval of a final millage rate of 2.7000 mils, which will take effect on October 1, 2026.
The approved tax rate of 2.7000 mils represents a slight increase over the current year's rolled-back rate of 2.6839 mils. This translates to an increase of 0.0161 mils, or 0.5999%, to fund the upcoming fiscal year's budget. City Manager Eddie Cook and Director of Finance Adam Thompson presented the final budget and tax rate for consideration.
During the public hearing, residents had the opportunity to speak or ask questions regarding the millage rate and proposed budget. Mayor Pam Henderson called citizens to the podium, where comments were limited to three minutes per speaker.
The Commission formally adopted the final ad valorem tax rate through Resolution No. 26-12. This resolution levies the General Fund Ad Valorem Rate at 2.7000 mils. Following this, Resolution No. 26-13 was considered and adopted, officially approving the Final FY2026/27 Budget, effective October 1, 2026.
The budget process, which included reviewing revenue projections and proposed expenditure levels, aimed to balance the General Fund. The final rate of 2.7000 mils was advertised as the maximum proposed rate in the "Notice of Final Property taxes for the City of Callaway, Florida," also known as the Trim Notice, as required by Section 200.065(2)(e), F.S.
Residents with questions about the budget or tax rate can contact the City Clerk's office at 6601 E. Highway 22, Callaway, FL 32404, or by phone at (850) 871-6000.
