Polk County Gets $4.7M Housing Assistance Program
Polk County Housing and Neighborhood Development will distribute $4.7 million in state housing funds starting July 1, 2026.
The State Housing Initiatives Partnership program money supports down payment assistance, home rehabilitation, demolition and reconstruction, and new construction for income-eligible buyers. The county estimates the funds will complete 72 projects by June 30, 2027.
Housing demolition and reconstruction receives $1.575 million for 8 projects. Down payment and closing cost assistance gets $1.2 million for 30 projects. Owner-occupied rehabilitation receives $802,617 for 32 projects. New construction and redevelopment receives $500,000 for 2 projects. Foreclosure prevention gets $200,000, with $466,957 reserved for administration.
At least 20 percent of the allocation will support households with special needs, with priority for residents with developmental disabilities requiring home modifications.
