Where You Will Work: FDOT D2 Jacksonville Bridge 838 Ellis Road South Jacksonville, FL 32205 Your Specific Responsibilities: Perform routine maintenance, structural repairs, and emergency repairs to bridges and ancillary structures. Upon receipt of the required CDL Instructional Permit or CDL License, operate lift equipment such as bucket trucks and platform trucks and operates and maintains the maintenance Under-Bridge Inspection Machine. Performs maintenance inspections, routine maintenance, routine repairs, and emergency repairs to mechanical equipment and electrical systems. Plan and organize work needs for maintenance and repair of bridges and ancillary structures. Direct and train assistants in the performance of routine maintenance and repairs of bridges and ancillary structures. Perform operational maintenance and periodic preventative maintenance on assigned equipment. This position will be required to respond before, during, and following emergency situations. This position has on-call responsibilities for returning to work to handle emergency situations or other needed activities. Minimum Qualifications: Requires two years of experience in the maintenance and repair of buildings, highways or bridges, plumbing or electrical or mechanical equipment; or Vocational/technical training in mechanical repair or one of the building trades (720 classroom hours will substitute for each year of the required experience). A Class E Driver’s license is required at time of hire. A CDL Class B License Instructional Permit is required within 60 days of appointment to the position and obtain a CDL Class B License with air brakes within 10 months of appointment. This position requires a valid Class E driver license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department’s Driver’s Record Requirements Policy. An unacceptable driving record is defined as any of the following: <ol style="margin-top:12.0pt;margin-bottom:0.0in"> <li style="margin:12.0pt 0.0in 0.0in 0.0px;line-height:normal;font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Aptos, sans-serif">three (3) or more moving violations in the past three (3) years that accumulate three (3) or more points per violation;</li> <li style="margin:2.35pt 0.0in 0.0in 0.0px;line-height:normal;font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Aptos, sans-serif">any two (2) convictions of reckless driving in the past three (3) years;</li> <li style="margin:2.2pt 0.0in 0.0in 0.0px;line-height:normal;font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Aptos, sans-serif">a suspension or revocation of the driver license for moving violations in the past three (3) years; and</li> <li style="margin:2.4pt 0.0in 0.0in 0.0px;line-height:normal;font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Aptos, sans-serif">a suspension or revocation for refusal to take a sobriety test, or any suspension or revocation for a DUI conviction, in the past four (4) years.</li> </ol> Your driving record will be reviewed and the status of your driver license confirmed. Applicants hired for this position with a Class E license will be required to obtain a Commercial Learners Permit (CLP) within 60 days of appointment, attend CDL training and successfully pass the CDL licensing test and obtain a CDL Class B license with air brakes within 10 months after appointment to the position. Once the CLP is obtained, candidates must register with the FMCSA Clearinghouse, as required, for the Department to conduct a query. Upon hire, this position also requires the applicant to have an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department’s Driver’s Record Requirements Policy. The costs of the initial CDL training and initial testing will be paid by the Department, subject to available funding. An employee will be given three chances to pass the license requirements. The employee will be responsible for paying for the initial CLP fee, as well as any additional training and re-test costs, and the CDL fee.
