Brevard Public Schools Celebrates CTE Internship Class of 2025-26

Brevard Public Schools' Career and Technical Education (CTE) program marked its Fifth Annual Recognition Ceremony on May 7 in Viera, honoring students who completed internships and On-the-Job Training experiences during the 2025-26 school year. CTE interns Lyla Maharramzade and Mei-Li Ramos served as emcees, representing the district's Work-Based Learning Specialist team. "This evening is a reflection of what is possible when education and industry come together to create meaningful opportunities for students and our community," they shared. Assistant Superintendent Tara Harris and Deputy Superintendent Sue Hann welcomed more than 200 student interns, their families, teachers, and local employers — recognizing sponsors and congratulating the CTE Internship Class of 2025-26. This year's interns represented career pathways including culinary arts, business and marketing, health sciences, automotive, construction, aviation, game and simulation design, early childhood education, digital media, and cybersecurity, among many others. A panel of graduating interns, employers, parents, and CTE teachers also shared reflections on the program's lasting impact on students' confidence and career readiness. The ceremony was made possible through the support of Parrish Health Network, Lexus of Melbourne, The Viera Company, Rush Construction, Health First, and Two Chicks & a Pot. Together, we are serving every student with excellence as a standard.

Melbourne High School Celebrates 50 Years of Iconic Liberty Bell Landmark

"Melbourne High School recently celebrated a major milestone, honoring the 50th anniversary of one of its most recognizable campus landmarks—the Liberty Bell monument. Originally constructed during the 1975–1976 school year, the Liberty Bell stands as a powerful symbol of both patriotism and hands-on learning. Built by building trades students under the direction of educator Thaddeus C. Padgett, the project reflected the spirit of America's Bicentennial while showcasing the skill, dedication, and craftsmanship of Melbourne High students. The 11-foot-tall, 1,800-pound replica was carefully designed and constructed on campus, then mounted on a concrete base at the heart of the school. Each side of the monument represents one of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's Four Freedoms—Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Worship, Freedom from Fear, and Freedom from Want—connecting the project to a broader message of civic responsibility and national pride. The Liberty Bell was officially dedicated on June 9, 1976, quickly becoming a centerpiece of student life. Over the decades, it has served as a gathering place, a backdrop for countless photos, and a symbol recognized not only by the school community but across Melbourne. The legacy of the monument is deeply rooted in the work of the student builders—known as the "Bell Boy" team—whose craftsmanship continues to inspire generations. Their work represents the lasting impact of experiential learning and the meaningful role students can play in shaping their school environment. In 1997, following campus renovations, the Liberty Bell was relocated to a central location, ensuring its continued prominence on campus. Today, it remains a testament to Melbourne High School's commitment to student achievement, technical education, and preserving history through hands-on learning. During the 50th anniversary ceremony held on May 23, 2026, students, alumni, staff, and community members came together to reflect on the monument's enduring significance. The event honored both the original student builders and the generations of Bulldogs who have gathered around the Liberty Bell over the past five decades. Melbourne High School continues to build on this proud tradition—connecting past and present through projects that inspire students, strengthen community ties, and bring learning to life."

Brevard Students Explore Creative Storytelling Through '101 Dalmatians' with Help from Disney Cruise Line

"Brevard Students Explore Creative Storytelling Through '101 Dalmatians' with Help from Disney Cruise Line Student production supported by Disney Theatrical Group's Disney Musicals in Schools program. Students from Cocoa's Endeavour Elementary took the stage Thursday night at the Rockledge High School auditorium for a performance of '101 Dalmatians KIDS,' made possible through hands-on guidance from Disney Cruise Line and support from Disney Musicals in Schools' Stage Connect initiative. The evening was filled with Disney magic that extended well beyond the stage. The young cast received a surprise visit from Captain Mickey Mouse, while a sea of Disney VoluntEARS from Disney Cruise Line cheered from the audience. In a touching tribute to their hard work, the student performers were presented with handcrafted flowers created by crew members from the Disney Destiny. 'At Disney Cruise Line, we believe that every student has a unique story to tell,' said Q Jones, senior manager of corporate social responsibility, Disney Cruise Line. 'We're proud of what the students of Endeavour Elementary have accomplished and look forward to empowering more youth in our port communities to become the next generation of storytellers through the creative arts.' Last November, Disney Cruise Line announced its 'Discover Your Destiny' initiative to honor the launch of the Disney Destiny cruise ship. The community program is designed to inspire youth and educators through exploration and exposure to creative arts experiences. In collaboration with local organizations, Disney Cruise Line is bringing the magic of professional entertainment into classrooms across Florida and The Bahamas. Through the 'Discover Your Destiny' initiative, Endeavour Elementary students and teachers got a behind-the-scenes look at the Broadway-style theater onboard the Disney Wish, costume-making workshops with Disney experts, and the opportunity to perform for the cruise line's crew members from across the world. 'The impact of this collaboration is profound,' said Catherine Murphy, Principal at Endeavour Elementary. 'We have taken these kids from normal, everyday students in elementary school to incredible actors and actresses. Our students, who were hesitant at first, have really blossomed. We have watched our students really find a passion that they are willing to explore for future years to come.' The success of the final performance was made possible by Disney Musicals in Schools, an initiative of the Disney Theatrical Group. The program builds enduring theater programs in public schools by providing free performance rights, materials, and professional development to educators. 'What these students and educators accomplished is a powerful reminder of what's possible when young people are given the opportunity to tell stories through the arts,' said Lisa Mitchell, director of education and audience engagement at Disney Theatrical Group. 'Programs like Disney Musicals in Schools help make arts education accessible and impactful for students across the country.' Endeavour Elementary was selected as one of over 70 elementary schools nationwide to participate in the inaugural launch of Stage Connect, an innovative online expansion of the Disney Musicals in Schools program. Stage Connect is a free online training experience that empowers teachers with the tools and resources to produce a Disney KIDS musical, bringing students together through the magic of theater and beloved Disney stories. Through this unique program, Endeavour Elementary received free professional development, educational materials and performance rights to stage '101 Dalmatians KIDS.' 'Discover Your Destiny' is part of the Disney Cruise Line's broader commitment to community investment and creative opportunities, which was recently recognized on Forbes' 2026 List of America's Best Brands for Social Impact. Space Coast Community Honors Future Service Members at 2026 Enlistment Ceremony

"A powerful display of patriotism and community pride filled Viera High School Stadium Friday evening as Brevard Public Schools hosted the 2026 Military Enlistment Ceremony of the Space Coast, one of the largest enlistment events in Central Florida. Nearly 250 enlistees officially committed to serve in the United States Armed Forces, taking the oath of enlistment before families, educators, and community leaders from across Brevard County. The oath was administered by Colonel Brian L. Chatman, Space Launch Delta 45 Installation Commander and Director of the Eastern Range at Patrick Space Force Base and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, lending distinguished leadership and significance to the milestone moment. In a strong show of districtwide support, approximately 250 Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC) cadets from Brevard Public Schools stood in formation on the field, representing the district's robust leadership and military preparatory programs. The ceremony featured several impactful highlights, including a dramatic flyover by the Brevard County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff Wayne Ivey was in attendance, demonstrating local law enforcement's continued support of the Space Coast's newest service members. Keynote remarks were delivered by Congressman Mike Haridopolos, who spoke about the meaning of military service and the lifelong responsibility embraced by those taking the oath. His comments underscored the dedication, courage, and sacrifice required to protect the nation. Adding a hands-on and educational experience for attendees, the United States Air Force displayed a deconstructed jet engine, offering families and students an up-close look at advanced aviation technology and military career pathways. The ceremony concluded with a saluting battery cannon fire conducted by the Naval Ordnance Test Unit, delivering a powerful and symbolic closing to the evening. Pre-ceremony activities began earlier in the afternoon, allowing enlistees and JROTC cadets to check in while providing media opportunities for interviews and coverage prior to the formal program. Open to the public, the event drew a large crowd of families, students, staff, and community members who gathered to honor the dedication, patriotism, and service commitment of the Space Coast's next generation of military personnel."
