Norovirus Now Leading Cause of Gastroenteritis in Young Children, Study Finds

Norovirus is now the most common cause of acute gastroenteritis among children under the age of five who require medical care, according to research published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

The study indicated that norovirus resulted in nearly 1 million medical care visits for children in the United States during 2009 and 2010. The costs associated with treatment reached hundreds of millions of dollars annually.
