Residents in parts of Lamar and Monroe Counties should seek shelter immediately due to a strong thunderstorm with a heightened risk of a brief tornado. The National Weather Service (NWS) Peachtree City GA issued a Special Weather Statement at 8:12 PM EDT, effective until 8:45 PM EDT tonight, October 10, 2026.

NWS Doppler radar indicated a strong thunderstorm near Brent, approximately 8 miles southwest of Forsyth, moving north at 25 mph. This storm carries hazards of 40 to 50 mph winds and an increased chance of a brief tornado.

While the primary impact from winds is expected to be minor damage to tree limbs and unsecured objects, the NWS states that localized rotation has been observed within the storm, indicating that a brief tornado could form quickly. Areas specifically impacted include Forsyth, Brent, and Collier.

People outdoors in these areas are advised to seek shelter immediately. Continue to monitor local weather updates for any changes or further warnings.
