Freeze Warning Issued: Protect Plants, Prevent Pipe Damage
A Freeze Warning is in effect for much of the Upper Peninsula from tonight until Saturday morning; residents should protect sensitive plants and outdoor plumbing from sub-freezing temperatures.
A Freeze Warning has been issued for much of the Upper Peninsula, effective from 10 PM EDT /9 PM CDT/ this evening, October 2nd, until 10 AM EDT /9 AM CDT/ Saturday, October 3rd.
Residents in Ontonagon, Houghton, Baraga, Marquette, Alger, Luce, Gogebic, Iron, Dickinson, Menominee, Delta, Southern Schoolcraft, Southern Houghton, and Northern Schoolcraft counties should take immediate action to protect sensitive vegetation and outdoor plumbing. Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 23 degrees Fahrenheit are expected.
The National Weather Service in Marquette advises taking steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent water pipes from freezing, wrap or drain them, or allow them to drip slowly. For those with in-ground sprinkler systems, drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
This Freeze Warning is severe and is expected to impact crops, other sensitive vegetation, and potentially damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
