Long Beach Schools Win 16th Music Education Award
Long Beach Public Schools has been named a Best Community for Music Education by the NAMM Foundation for the 16th consecutive year, a streak dating to 2011.
More than 1,600 students across the district participate in 36 ensembles including bands, orchestras, and choirs. At Long Beach High School, students can take guitar classes, IB Music courses, and join the Tri-M Music Honor Society.
"This honor reflects the talents of our students, the dedication of our music educators, and the support of our administration and community," said Julia Lang-Shapiro, director of Media, Visual & Performing Arts.
The NAMM Foundation awards the designation to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in providing music access to all students. The federal Every Student Succeeds Act identifies music and the arts as essential components of a well-rounded education.
