Heat Advisory: Act Now to Stay Safe
A Heat Advisory is in effect until 10:00 PM PDT tonight for a wide area of the San Joaquin Valley and surrounding foothills, with temperatures up to 101 degrees expected; residents should drink fluids, stay indoors, and check on neighbors.
A Heat Advisory has been issued for a wide area including the San Joaquin Valley, Sierra Nevada foothills, and Coastal West Hills, effective immediately until 10:00 PM PDT this evening, October 8, 2026. The National Weather Service (NWS) Hanford CA reports that high temperatures up to 101 degrees are expected, with overnight lows between 70 and 75 degrees anticipated in the Sierra and Coastal Range Foothills, particularly where the thermal belt is strongest.
This advisory covers the West Side Mountains north of 198, Los Banos - Dos Palos, Merced - Madera - Mendota, Planada - Le Grand - Snelling, Coalinga - Avenal, West Side of Fresno and Kings Counties, Caruthers - San Joaquin - Selma, Fresno-Clovis, West Side Mountains South of 198, Buttonwillow - Lost Hills - I5, Delano-Wasco-Shafter, Hanford - Corcoran - Lemoore, Visalia - Porterville - Reedley, Buena Vista, Bakersfield, Southeast San Joaquin Valley, South End San Joaquin Valley, Mariposa Madera Foothills, Mariposa-Madera Lower Sierra, Fresno-Tulare Foothills, Fresno-Tulare Lower Sierra, South End Sierra Foothills, and the South End of the Lower Sierra.
The NWS warns that hot temperatures may cause heat illnesses, with a moderate to major risk of heat-related illnesses for much of the population, especially those without effective cooling or hydration. Residents are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
