22 of 24 NHTI Paramedic Students Pass Airway Test

Staff Writer
June 11, 2026

Twenty-two of 24 paramedic students at NHTI-Concord's Community College passed a rigorous airway competency exam on April 15, successfully intubating mannequins representing adults, children, and infants within 90 seconds each.

Professional paramedics and medical directors timed and judged each attempt. First-year students needed a 75% success rate on the first pass to advance to clinical work with real patients. Graduating seniors faced a higher standard: 90% success on the first pass.

Clinical coordinator Justin Hinds said students worked through all key intubation steps with each mannequin size to test their skills across different scenarios. The college designed the test conditions to simulate the cramped, chaotic environment of real emergency scenes.

NHTI-Concord's Community College serves 4,600 students annually through more than 70 academic programs. The college's healthcare program graduates achieve a 100% employment rate. Information about the paramedic program is available at nhti.edu.
