It is permissible when travelling to classes or demonstrations to wear your Do Bok pants with a sweatshirt or T-shirt. Never walk around the Do Jang with your Do Bok hanging loose, or your belt untied. This shows extreme lack of respect for yourself and your training environment.   The Results You Want come with Discipline – Unknown   Korean Word of the Week Word: 자기 통제 (cha-gi tong-je) Self Control Phrase: 자기 통제를 연습하지. (cha-gi tong-je-reul yeon-seub-ha-ji) Let’s Practice Self-Control. Diving Deeper: Self-Control is the ability to manage your thoughts, emotions, and actions when facing challenges, temptations, or strong emotions. This is one of the most important qualities you can have because it helps you make better choices without letting your emotions or thoughts get in the way. We practice self-control in the Do Jang by focusing on ourselves and taking the right actions to improve our training. Instead of worrying about what others are doing, we strive to be an example for those around us. We also practice self control during sparring. Even if you know you can strike harder, or you have an advantage of age, height, or rank, you still show control and respect to your partner by holding back. To be a good martial artist, it is not enough to have physical strength or skill. A true martial artist learns to control themselves and stay calm under pressure. Anyone can punch and kick, but it takes discipline and character to stay calm, think clearly, and choose the right actions.   The Most Advanced Thing You Can Do are the Basics Consistently. – Unknown   Spring/Summer Tournament/Fun Dates June 5th & 6th – CS Kim Karate National Championships June 14 – Annual Picnic and Belt Promotions: Tuckahoe State Park Sunday 12:00 Noon to 4:00 PM July 18 – Leadership: Beach Training at Rehoboth Beach, DE August TBA: Hershey Park Trip September 12 – Mid-Atlantic All Female Tournament in Columbia MD Registration: https://www.karate4girls.com/maafko/   Do Jang Rules Rule #1: Leave your Ego at the Door Rule #2: See Rule # 1 Rule #3: A Clean Do Bok shows Respect for Yourself and your Do Jang Rule #4: On our Mat, we Bow, we Listen, and we Lift Each Other UP   17th Anniversary Picnic – Sunday June 14th   It’s hard to believe that we have been on the Eastern Shore of Maryland for 17 years!!! Diving Deeper: Family is an important part of our lives because it gives us support, love, and a sense of belonging. Family members help us when things get hard, encourage us to keep gong if we want to give up, and celebrate all the things you accomplish. Family is not limited to those at home, it is a group of people you surround yourself with who build a positive bond. Here, we have our dojang family. Where we train together, learn together, and grow stronger together. Everyone plays a role in helping each other improve including the instructors, fellow classmates, and all the parents/guardians who come to support their kids. A strong martial arts family is built on respect, trust, and encouragement. It is where mistakes are seen as opportunities to learn, and not reasons to feel discouraged. Each class is a chance to support one another and grow a little better than before.
