Palmetto Bay Flood Insurance Discounts & Water Conservation
Palmetto Bay residents can receive discounts on flood insurance premiums through the Village's Flood Insurance Discount program. Residents should visit the program's webpage for details.
Miami-Dade County enforces year-round water restrictions on all residents and businesses. Homeowners and commercial properties can water lawns twice weekly on a rotating schedule, choosing either morning or evening watering windows. Watering twice daily wastes water and damages landscaping.
The county warns that poorly maintained septic systems leak nutrients and pathogens into stormwater, which flows into nearby canals and lakes. Rising sea levels increase the risk of septic system failures throughout the county.
Residents can protect local water quality through several practices: installing permeable pavement to reduce stormwater runoff; maintaining proper chlorine levels and using pool covers instead of copper-based algae products; limiting fertilizer and pesticide use; harvesting rainwater in mosquito-proof containers; planting native grasses along roadways to filter stormwater; and collecting rainwater in rain gardens.
Residents should dispose of pet waste properly, wash cars at commercial facilities rather than at home, and never dump automotive fluids into storm drains.
For after-hours concerns, residents can call 305-506-7965. Residents can create a Village website account to manage notification subscriptions.
