MaineDOT to Temporarily Close the Ferry Point Bridge in Calais Drivers should plan for detours. CALAIS – October 1, 2026 —Starting October 13, the Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) will temporarily close the Ferry Point Bridge over the St. Croix River which connects Calais, Maine and St. Stephen, New Brunswick for six weeks for a bridge rehabilitation project. The project work includes deck rehabilitation and bridge joint repair on the Maine side of this international border crossing. Work is expected to be completed by the end of November. Motorists traveling between Calais and St. Stephen should use the Milltown International Bridge (8 AM to 4 PM ET) or the International Avenue Bridge/St. Stephen Third Bridge (24 hours). Commercial traffic must use the International Avenue Bridge, also known as Third Bridge. Travelers should expect delays, plan extra travel time, and follow all posted signs and directions in the work area. MaineDOT appreciates the public’s patience as crews complete this work to maintain the safety and reliability of the Ferry Point Bridge.
Upcoming Route 1 Long Term Lane Closure on Cousins River Bridge
YARMOUTH/FREEPORT-The Maine Department of Transportation will be limiting traffic on US Route 1 to one lane of alternating traffic from October 6, 2025 to May 15, 2026. Flaggers and temporary traffic signals will be used to navigate traffic through the project site. Traffic on I-295 will not be affected by this project. Crews will be replacing the existing US Route 1 Cousins River Bridge while one-lane of alternating traffic will be maintained on the newly constructed phase 1 bridge. The contractor on this project is CPM Constructors of Freeport, Maine. The contract amount is $7,864,531.48.

Overnight Brunswick Ramp Closures | Maine Department of Transportation Home Skip to top navigation Skip to side navigation Skip to content Skip to footer Overnight Brunswick Ramp Closures 10/02/2025 BRUNSWICK – The Maine Department of Transportation will be closing two ramps in Brunswick overnight on October 2, 2025, from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM. The northbound on ramp to Route 196 East to Route 1 North and the southbound on ramp from Cooks Corner to Route 1 South will each be closed for maintenance. Closures will be clearly marked with signs and cones, and drivers should use the next available exit during this period. Drivers traveling to Route 1 northbound from Route 196 East should remain on Main Street and reenter Route 1 at the Mason Street / Cressey Rd northbound on ramp. Drivers heading from Cooks Corner to Route 1 southbound should take Route 24 (Bath Road) to Main Street and reenter Route 1. These closures are part of an ongoing highway rehabilitation project. The project covers an area that begins 0.17 miles east of Cushing Street and extends east for 3.02 miles, as well as 0.70 miles west of Old Bath Road and extending west for 3.39 miles. All local approaches and ramps are included in this work, which consists of pavement milling, hot mix asphalt overlay, and safety improvements. The contractor on this project is Coastal Road Repair of Westbrook, Maine. The contract amount is $15,544,396.25.
