Strong Thunderstorm Nearing Atmore: Seek Shelter Indoors

A Special Weather Statement has been issued for Escambia and Escambia Inland by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Mobile, AL. At 4:47 PM CDT, Doppler radar detected a strong thunderstorm located near I65 and AL 21, approximately 9 miles north of Atmore. The storm is currently moving south at 10 mph.

The NWS reports that this storm carries a hazard of wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea-sized hail. These conditions could lead to downed tree limbs and unsecured objects being blown around. Minor damage to outdoor items is also possible.

Residents in Atmore, McCullough, the Poarch Creek Reservation, Bratt, and areas around I65 and CR 1 and I65 and AL 21 are advised to consider seeking shelter inside a building if outdoors. This Special Weather Statement is effective immediately and is set to expire at 5:30 PM CDT today, September 20.
