Escambia County is under an immediate Tropical Storm Warning, with residents urged to shelter from life-threatening winds and prepare for major flooding.

Residents of Escambia County, including Atmore, Brewton, and Flomaton, are under an immediate Tropical Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL, effective October 10 at 1:02 AM CDT. Tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours. Authorities urge immediate action to shelter from life-threatening wind.

Peak wind forecasts predict 25-35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph, though there is potential for winds of 74 to 110 mph. The NWS advises that residents should now be sheltering from these life-threatening winds. Last-minute efforts should focus solely on protecting life, as considerable wind damage is expected.

In addition to severe winds, major flooding from heavy rain is a potential threat. Emergency plans should include the possibility of widespread flooding, which could necessitate evacuations and rescues. Residents in flood-prone areas should strongly consider protective actions. Heed all flood watches and warnings immediately, as failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life.

The NWS does not anticipate tornadoes at this time. For local information, contact Escambia County EMA at 251-867-0232. For ongoing storm impact updates, visit www.weather.gov/mob. This alert is effective until October 10, 2026, 9:15 AM UTC.
