Residents in Escambia and Santa Rosa Inland counties are advised to seek shelter indoors immediately as strong thunderstorms are tracking towards the area. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Mobile, AL, has issued a Special Weather Statement effective until 5:00 PM CDT today, September 20, 2026.
At 4:10 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated a cluster of strong thunderstorms over Riverview, or over Brewton, moving southwest at 25 mph. These storms are capable of producing wind gusts up to 50 mph. The NWS warns that gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.
Torrential rainfall is also occurring, which may lead to localized flooding. Drivers are instructed not to drive vehicles through flooded roadways. Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning is accompanying these storms; lightning can strike up to 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle if outdoors.
Locations impacted include Brewton, Century, Flomaton, East Brewton, Jay, Pollard, and Riverview. The NWS urges everyone in these areas to remain vigilant and prioritize safety until the statement expires.
