God-given dreams are not always given in the night. Many are like pictures of the future which He paints on the canvas of our hearts. God-given dreams will cause us to begin to desire specific things that actually are God-inspired desires. They will continue to increase in us, coming into focus and developing into something powerful and real on the inside. The more we realize God has shown us a part of His plan, the more we will be empowered and directed.

There are four aspects which are important in order to see these God-given dreams become realities. First, God will deliver us from all that has prevented us from receiving from Him. John 8:31-32 says, “Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, ‘If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free’” (NKJV). The power of His truth is alive in us and makes us free. God’s Word does more than set us free—it makes us free. The more alive His Word is in our minds and spirits the more liberty we have. We are free to think His thoughts and know His ways. The Holy Spirit will bring God’s Word to life in our inner man. As we meditate on the Word, and pray in the Holy Spirit, we will experience the delivering power of God rising up within us. In the midst of any situation, we can rely on His strength within to keep us free. We are a new person in Christ who is now free from destructive habits, thoughts and conversation. We are free to act on His Word. Each step toward God’s dream for our lives requires that we draw upon His strength that has been deposited in our hearts. God has already given us 100% permanent victory. When we know we are totally free in Christ a temporary setback will not bother us. The Lord will continue to refine us and mold us into a more useful vessel. The closer we walk with Him the more He will point out things in our lives that do not please Him. He is always teaching and encouraging us to grow in excellence. God’s ways are the ways that bring the greatest benefits and results. David said it so well in Psalm 34: I will praise the Lord no matter what happens. I will constantly speak of his glories and grace. I will boast of all his kindness to me. Let all who are discouraged take heart. Let us praise the Lord together and exalt his name. For I cried to Him and He answered me! He freed me from all my fears. (Ps. 34:1-4 TLB) Jesus has delivered us so that we would live in freedom. “Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage” (Galatians 5:1 NKJV). He wants to refine us and mold us into a more useful vessel. Make the decision today to walk with Him closer than ever before. Dennis Burke Ministries All rights reserved. Used by permission. Columbia Falls UMC Embraces New Vision Statement for Community Outreach

On Trinity Sunday last weekend, we reflected on a God whose very nature is relational, a divine Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer who gives its love and power away to bring hope and salvation to others. We looked at the new Vision Statement from the UMC, an effort to renew our energy and contextualize our mission in a time of cynicism and change. Here’s the statement: “The United Methodist Church forms disciples of Jesus Christ who, empowered by the Holy Spirit, love boldly, serve joyfully, and lead courageously in local communities and worldwide connections.” Our calling as United Methodists is not to consume resources or hide out in our own comfort zones. Instead, our connectional vision reminds us exactly how to live out the Great Commission empowered by a God who exists as a relationship: By choosing to love boldly, serve joyfully, and lead courageously. Love boldly means we actively include people from every age, walk of life, and background, loving them simply because Jesus loves us. (Matthew 22) Serve joyfully calls us to journey directly alongside the most vulnerable, finding our strength in the joy of the Lord as we care for our neighbors. (Psalm 100, Nehemiah 8) Lead courageously invites us to step up, follow the example of Christ, and actively resist systems of injustice and oppression while caring deeply for both God’s people and God’s creation. (Joshua 1: 9, Ephesians 6:10) Obeying Jesus is not about trying to save an institution; it is about connecting our community to a life-giving, transforming love. Looking at the three principles of our shared vision—loving boldly, serving joyfully, and leading courageously—which one is the Holy Spirit nudging you to prioritize in your workplace, school, or neighborhood this week?
