Residents in Atkinson, Echols, Clinch, and Northern Ware counties should seek shelter indoors due to a strong thunderstorm identified by Doppler radar. The National Weather Service (NWS) Jacksonville FL issued a Special Weather Statement today, October 3, 2026, at 4:56 PM EDT, effective until 5:45 PM EDT.

The storm, located near Mayday (11 miles northeast of Statenville), is moving northeast at 30 mph. Hazards include wind gusts of approximately 40 mph and minor flooding from heavy rainfall. These conditions could cause unsecured objects to blow around and tree limbs to fall. Localized flooding is possible due to torrential rainfall.

Affected areas include Homerville, Pearson, Willacoochee, Argyle, Du Pont, Mayday, Cogdell, Millwood, and Axson. If you are outdoors, immediately move inside a building. Do not drive through flooded roadways. The NWS advises caution during this period.
