Attorney General Wilson Announces Largest Big Tech Settlement in History 8/26/2026 (COLUMBUS, Ohio) — Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson today announced a landmark $17.1 billion multistate settlement with Meta that will require the company to implement sweeping new safety measures designed to better protect children and teens on Instagram and Facebook. “With this historic settlement, Meta agrees to establish meaningful protections for young users,” Wilson said. “Digital platforms that cater to children have a duty to shield impressionable minds from the risks of unchecked exposure to social media.” Under the proposed agreement, Ohio is expected to receive more than $319 million over the next decade. The settlement resolves claims that Meta designed its social media platforms with features intended to keep young users engaged and addicted, knowingly exposed children and teens to serious mental harms, and intentionally misled the public about the safety of its platforms, while also violating the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act by collecting data of children under the age of 13. The agreement represents a victory for the protection of children online and marks a significant step toward fundamentally transforming how the entire social media industry designs products for kids and teens. The settlement requires Meta to implement a series of safety features on Instagram and Facebook including: Hard cap daily time limits and “Productive Pauses” for children: for its two platforms, Instagram and Facebook, a combined two-hour daily time limit with mandatory pauses after 15 minutes of continuous use and again at 60 and 90 minutes to interrupt endless scrolling. “Nighttime blocks” restricting children’s access from 12-6 a.m. Push notification elimination on weekdays from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. during the school year. Robust age assurance measures to more effectively verify the age of young users. Safer, age-appropriate content controls, including stronger safeguards against bullying and content that may promote harmful behavior such as eating disorders, suicide and self-harm. Stronger, more user-friendly parental controls. Disabling social comparison features, including beauty filters and visible “like” counts, that have been linked to poor mental health outcomes in kids and teens. Both the implementation and efficacy of the features will be assessed regularly by an independent auditor and the settling states. Attorney General Wilson also acknowledged that this problem extends well beyond one company. The agreement establishes groundbreaking changes to Instagram and Facebook that are more significant and comprehensive than any previously ordered by a court or agreed to by a social media company. Make sure that your mail carrier always has a clear path to your mailbox whether it's by the street or mounted on your house. Curbside Mailboxes Mailbox Size & Construction Standards A mailbox with the Postmaster General's (PMG) seal of approval meets USPS size and construction standards. If you build your own mailbox or buy a custom-made one, it must meet the PMG standards. Show your local postmaster your mailbox plans or your custom-made box for approval. Where to Place the Mailbox Here are some helpful guidelines to follow when placing your mailbox: Position your mailbox 41″ to 45″ from the road surface to the bottom of the mailbox or point of mail entry. Place your mailbox 6″ to 8″ back from the curb. If you do not have a raised curb, contact your local postmaster for guidance. Put your house or apartment number on the mailbox. If your mailbox is on a different street from your house or apartment, put your full street address on the box. Where to Place the Mailbox × Installing the Mailbox Post The best mailbox supports are stable but bend or fall away if a car hits them. The Federal Highway Administration recommends: A 4″ x 4″ wooden support or a 2″-diameter standard steel or aluminum pipe. Avoid unyielding and potentially dangerous supports, like heavy metal pipes, concrete posts, and farm equipment (e.g., milk cans filled with concrete). Bury your post no more than 24″ deep. Door Slots & Wall Mailboxes Approved Door Slots Some homes and apartments have a slot in the door for receiving mail instead of a mailbox. The standards for an approved door slot are: The opening must be at least 1 1/2″ x 7″. The bottom of the slot must be at least 30″ above floor. Horizontal slots must have a flap hinged at the top. Vertical slots must be hinged on the opposite side from the door's hinges. For greater privacy, you can also install a mail slot hood on the inside of your door to prevent someone from seeing into your home. The standards for door slot hoods are: The hood should not project more than 2 1/16″ beyond the inside of the door. On a horizontal slot, the hood should not extend below the bottom of the outside plate. On a vertical slot, the hood should not extend beyond the side of the outside plate on same side as the door's hinges. Wall-Mounted Mailboxes To replace your curbside mailbox with a wall-mounted mailbox, you must get your local postmaster's permission. Choose from a variety of mailbox sizes and styles; mounted mailboxes are not required to have a PMG seal of approval. Get a wall mailbox that can hold a normal day's mail volume, including letter-sized envelopes, postcards, and catalogs.* Place the mailbox near the main entrance so your mail carrier can easily see it. *Note: Wall-mounted mailboxes may only be used for items with postage. Newspapers may not be placed in the mailbox. Maintenance Mailboxes take a beating from the weather, so we recommend an annual mailbox checkup to avoid damage to your mail or difficulty identifying your address. USPS Package Intercept

For a fee, USPS Package Intercept® service lets the sender (or authorized representative) stop delivery or redirect a package, letter, or flat that is not out for delivery or already delivered. Most domestic mailings with a tracking or extra services barcode are eligible for Package Intercept. Retail Senders: You can redirect a shipment back to your address or to a Post Office™ location as Hold For Pickup. You can only request a Package Intercept online with a USPS.com account. Commercial Senders: You can redirect a shipment back to your address, to a new delivery address, or to a Post Office location as Hold For Pickup via Business Customer Gateway. How It Works 1. Verify that your shipment is eligible for Package Intercept. 2. If eligible, sign in to or create a USPS.com account to submit your request. 3. Use Retail Package Intercept to request that USPS redirect the shipment back to the original sender (you), hold it at the destination Post Office location, or hold it at a new Post Office location. 4. After submitting your request, you’ll be provided an estimated total (intercept fee plus estimated postage, if applicable). We will then attempt to intercept and redirect the shipment. 5. If the shipment is intercepted, your credit card will be charged the $19.45 Package Intercept fee plus any applicable postage. If the actual postage is greater than estimated, any additional postage will be charged accordingly. 6. Your shipment will be redirected to the location you requested. Intercept a Retail Package Paying for Package Intercept Intercepted items will be redirected as the service it was originally sent with (Priority Mail Express®, Priority Mail®, USPS Ground Advantage®, or First-Class Mail®). You must pay the applicable postage. Customers will not be charged if the shipment was not intercepted.
