Rip Current Warning for Lake and Ashtabula Lakeshores

SWIMMERS MUST AVOID THE WATER along the Lake and Ashtabula Lakeshores due to a high risk of dangerous rip currents. The National Weather Service (NWS) Cleveland OH has issued a Beach Hazards Statement effective from 2 AM EDT Monday, September 21, 2026, through Wednesday evening, September 23, 2026.

This warning specifically impacts Lake and Ashtabula Counties. Wind and wave action are expected to create strong currents along the lakeshore, posing a significant danger to anyone entering the water. Rip currents can quickly pull swimmers away from the shore, including through sandbars and along structures extending into the lake.

To ensure safety, residents and visitors are advised to remain out of the water throughout the duration of this statement. Do not attempt to swim in these hazardous conditions.
