Pilgrim's Rest Baptist Church has launched a new initiative aimed at deepening community and spiritual growth among its members. The church celebrated the official launch of its small groups program on Sunday, September 13th, during its morning service. These groups are designed to foster connection through Bible study, fellowship, and prayer.
The small groups will consist of 8-12 adults who commit to meeting weekly. During these gatherings, participants will engage in Bible study, share personal experiences, and pray for one another. The program's stated purpose is to connect people to God and to each other, encouraging them to "reach up to God, reach in to one another, and reach out to the world." This vision aligns with the biblical passage from Acts 2:42, which speaks of early believers devoting themselves to teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread, and prayer.
The church's leadership outlined a clear mission: to fulfill the Great Commission through these small groups. Their vision encompasses three key areas: biblical community, discipleship, and outreach. They aim to provide a space for authentic relationships that draw members closer to God, equip individuals for spiritual growth in their daily lives, and cultivate a culture of evangelism and missions by encouraging members to share the gospel with their friends, neighbors, and coworkers.
Expectations are set for both leaders and members. Leaders are encouraged to pray daily for their group, maintain weekly contact with each member, facilitate discussions, care for their group, and communicate needs to the church staff. Members are expected to attend regularly, participate actively in discussions, care for each other, pray for one another, and come prepared.
Guidelines for group interaction emphasize confidentiality, ensuring that what is shared within the group stays within the group. Discussions are to remain centered on the Bible or provided study materials, with respect for all members and a commitment to punctuality. The program is overseen by a Pastor who serves as a visionary and shepherd, a Small Group Director responsible for recruiting and training leaders, and a Ministry Assistant providing administrative support.
The first small groups began meeting the week of September 14th. Those interested in joining a group or learning more about the program can contact Pilgrim's Rest Baptist Church directly.
