Public Works

The Department of Public Works is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the water plants, mains, hydrants, roads in the city limits, except State and County roads and customer-related water problems at entry points, and approximately 570 water meters. The Public Works staff is always on call and can be contacted to respond to any water or street issue 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The City has an after-hours staff person that should assist residents in contacting the appropriate staff member. Call 352-495-2880. Our water source is drawn groundwater from the Florida aquifer and is chlorinated to meet Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) disinfection regulations. The raw water is tested frequently per DEP yearly monitoring schedules and a Consumer Confidence Report is prepared by the city's water operator and posted for viewing on our Annual Reports & Postings page under Administration. The city's water operator is responsible for maintaining the appropriate chlorine residual in the system and keeping the city DEP compliant by conducting the various scheduled water tests and analyses. REMEMBER, Public Works Works for You.
