BNSF Delays Hollywood Ave Grade Crossing Repairs in Alsip
Staff Writer
May 14, 2026
BNSF Railroad postponed a grade crossing repair project at Hollywood Avenue in Alsip after the village requested the delay to avoid disrupting the school year.
RoadSafe, the contractor hired by BNSF, had scheduled the work for April 24 through May 5, 2026. The 10-day closure would have shut down the crossing to vehicles and pedestrians, forcing South Hollywood residents to use First Avenue as the sole motor vehicle exit and affecting Metra commuters and families with children at Hollywood School, Hauser Junior High, and Riverside-Brookfield High School.
BNSF will announce new dates for the project after the current school year ends.
