Apopka Water Quality Safe; City Encourages Conservation

The City of Apopka confirmed its drinking water meets or exceeds all state and federal safety standards in its 2024 Drinking Water Quality Summary. Residents can find detailed contaminant information on the city's website.

The city tested for contaminants including Arsenic, Barium, Fluoride, Nitrate, Sodium, Chlorine, Copper, Lead and Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS). Arsenic registered at 0.0007 ppm, well below the maximum allowed level of 0.0104 ppm. Chlorine, added to disinfect water, was measured at 1.9 ppm, below the 4.0 ppm maximum. Lead registered at 0 ppm, indicating no detectable levels.

Apopka residents who adopted water conservation practices in 2025 saw significant savings. Those upgrading to smart irrigation controllers saved an average of 2,771 gallons of water per month, totaling 33,252 gallons annually. This resulted in approximately $79.47 in annual savings for potable water users and $74.48 for reuse water users.

The city also offers practical tips for reducing household water use. Switching to WaterSense labeled fixtures can save water and money. Replacing faucets can save 900 gallons annually ($6.28). New shower heads can save 3,600 gallons yearly ($25.12). Upgrading old five-gallon-per-flush toilets to WaterSense models offers the greatest savings, at 27,000 gallons per year (about $188.46).

Installing a functioning rain sensor on irrigation systems can save an average of 7,500 gallons per month during the rainy season, with savings of at least $16.35 monthly. More rain means more savings.
