Apopka Spring Concerts, Safety Day & Summer Camps Recap

Apopka residents enjoyed a variety of city-sponsored events this past spring and summer, including music concerts, a community safety initiative and numerous summer camp opportunities for local youth.

The Spring 2026 Apopka Saturday Sounds Concert Series concluded with two free performances at the Apopka Amphitheater. The Fire Rhythms Band played on May 2, 2026, performing a selection of Rock, Funk, Latin/Urbano, Top 40/Dance, Soul and Disco music. A Dave Matthews Tribute Band closed the series on May 16, 2026, featuring music reminiscent of the 1990s.

Community safety was the focus of Personal Safety Day in the Park, held May 9, 2026, at Kit Land Nelson Park. The 90-minute self-defense class, for individuals 16 and older, included full-body training, conditioning, basic self-defense techniques, strikes and situational awareness skills.

The city honored fallen military heroes with its Memorial Day Service 2026 on May 25, 2026, at the Edgewood/Greenwood Cemetery Veterans Memorial. The City of Apopka and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10147 organized the service. City Hall and other offices closed in observance of the holiday.

Summer 2026 offered several camp options for Apopka youth. Camps ran weekdays from June 1, 2026, to July 24, 2026, operating from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. No sessions occurred on July 3, 2026, in observance of Independence Day.

The Apopka Athletic Day Camp, for ages 6 to 13, cost $125 per week for residents and took place at the Fran Carlton Center. Activities included sports training, field trips, swimming, splash pad days, arts and crafts, and indoor/outdoor games.

The Summer Camp at Billie Dean Community, for ages 6 to 11, cost $100 per week for residents. This camp focused on field trips, educational activities and team-building exercises.

Camp Wewa offered a summer program for ages 9 to 13 at $175 per week for residents. Activities included sports games, swimming, rock climbing, kayaking, canoeing, archery, arts and crafts, nature activities, low ropes/team building and fishing lessons.

As summer approached, the Apopka Fire Department issued water safety tips, urging residents to swim in designated areas, always swim with a buddy, supervise children near water, learn to swim and secure pools with barriers.
