Apopka residents can look forward to a vibrant cultural celebration this week, following recent community engagement and a solemn memorial. The city also announced updates to its commission meeting schedule.

Earlier this month, the Apopka Police Department (APD) and Apopka Fire Department (AFD) hosted 'Apopka Night Out on 5th' on September 4, 2026. This event, presented in partnership with Market on 5th, featured bounce houses, a Touch-A-Truck experience with APD & AFD, and Snowie’s Sno Cones, fostering community engagement with first responders.

Apopka also commemorated the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks with a 9/11 Memorial Service. The Apopka Fire and Police Departments hosted the service on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 8:30 AM, in front of Apopka City Hall. During the ceremony, the flag was lowered to half-staff to honor those who lost their lives.

The City of Apopka adjusted its City Commission meeting schedule. Meetings held on the third Wednesday of each month now convene at 6 PM. Special workshops to discuss agenda items will take place at 5 PM before these meetings when necessary. The first Wednesday of the month Apopka City Commission meetings will continue at their established time of 1:30 PM in City Hall Chambers.

Looking ahead, the Fifth Annual Hispanic Heritage Celebration is scheduled for Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 4 PM to 8 PM at Kit Land Nelson Park. Presented by AdventHealth, this free, family-friendly event will feature Hispanic music, dancers, food, and various community groups. Residents can visit Apopka.gov/HispanicHeritageCelebration for more information or to become a vendor.
