Gusty Showers Bring 40 MPH Winds to Northern Michigan

A Special Weather Statement has been issued for Emmet, Cheboygan, Presque Isle, Leelanau, Antrim, Otsego, Montmorency, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Crawford, and Charlevoix counties until 7:00 PM EDT tonight, October 7, 2026. The National Weather Service in Gaylord, MI, reports that Doppler radar is tracking gusty showers with winds up to 40 mph.
These conditions are moving southeast at 40 mph and were observed extending from Black Lake to near Greilickville as of 6:15 PM EDT. The primary hazard is wind gusts reaching 40 mph, which could lead to downed tree limbs and unsecured objects being blown around.
Residents in affected areas, including Traverse City, Petoskey, Cheboygan, Boyne City, Gaylord, East Jordan, Kalkaska, Elk Rapids, Mancelona, Bellaire, Onaway, Ellsworth, Indian River, Antrim, Bingham, Elmira, Frederic, Torch Lake, Central Lake, and Aloha, should be aware of these conditions. If you are outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building for your safety.
