Special Needs Assistance
Special Needs Assistance In Florida, everyone is vulnerable to severe weather—especially hurricanes. Individuals with special needs, including those who live alone or without nearby support, may require additional assistance during an emergency. The Hernando County Special Needs Program helps coordinate the registration, notification, and evacuation of residents who have physical or mental disabilities, or minor medical conditions that may require extra support; for example, if a hospital should be considered instead of a shelter. Registration Registration for the Special Needs Program can be completed in the following ways: - Register online at: Special Needs Registry at: https://specialneeds.hernandocounty.us/ - Contact your Home Health Care or Oxygen Provider, Private Care Providers, or Physician's Offices Once you are registered, you or your healthcare representative should renew your application every year. Locations Follow local news stations or Hernando County Emergency Management on social media for up-to-date information on shelter locations. The shelter has a limited number of blankets, cots and medical supplies. Residents are strongly encouraged to bring their own supplies and comfort items. Read their Special Needs Shelter Quick Facts for more information on what to expect at the shelter. Click here to find out more about the pet-friendly shelter in Hernando County.
