The City of Fort Pierce is moving forward with significant infrastructure improvements along the Avenue D corridor, representing an important investment in the Lincoln Park community. The Avenue D Road Improvement Project will resurface approximately 1.6 miles of roadway from 29th Street to U.S. 1 and includes a variety of safety, accessibility, and mobility enhancements designed to improve the overall corridor experience for residents, businesses, pedestrians, and motorists. Project Improvements Include: - Resurfacing Avenue D from 29th Street to U.S. 1 - Reconstruction of ADA-compliant ramps - Sidewalk and driveway improvements where needed - Updated roadway signage and pavement markings - Enhanced pedestrian crosswalks - Installation of new vehicle detection systems at signalized intersections to improve traffic flow - Construction of a new overhead gateway sign welcoming residents and visitors to the historic Lincoln Park neighborhood The roadway and infrastructure improvements are anticipated to be substantially completed within approximately 180 days, with anticipated completion around the end of November 2026, weather and construction conditions permitting. Installation of the overhead gateway sign structure is expected to extend slightly beyond the primary construction schedule. Project Funding The project is funded through a combination of local and state funding sources, including: - $1.5 million State Legislative Funding - $1.5 million contribution from the Fort Pierce Redevelopment Agency - Local Infrastructure Surtax funding Community Investment The Avenue D Road Improvement Project represents the first in a broader series of planned investments within the Lincoln Park community. The City of Fort Pierce and the FPRA are currently advancing the Lincoln Park Master Plan process, which will help guide the neighborhood's long-term vision, redevelopment priorities, infrastructure needs, and future community enhancements. Following the recent grand opening of the Highwaymen Museum, the Avenue D project continues the positive momentum and ongoing commitment toward reinvestment, connectivity, and neighborhood improvements throughout Lincoln Park. Construction Impacts During construction, temporary lane closures and traffic pattern adjustments may occur throughout the corridor. The City will work closely with contractors to minimize disruptions and maintain access for residents, businesses, and emergency services whenever possible. Residents are encouraged to use caution in construction areas and follow posted signage and traffic control measures throughout the duration of the project. Latest Updates Avenue D construction continues to progress. Construction of the ADA ramp improvements and crosswalk replacements continues on the south side of Avenue D from 13th Street to 7th Street. Sidewalk construction on the west end of Avenue D from 29th Street to 25th Street continues.
