High Wind Watch Issued: Prepare for Gusts Up To 45 MPH This Weekend
A High Wind Watch has been issued for ten local counties, with gusts up to 45 mph expected from late Friday night through late Saturday night, potentially causing power outages and difficult travel conditions.
Residents in Marion, Lamar, Fayette, Winston, Walker, Blount, Etowah, Calhoun, Cherokee, and Cleburne counties should prepare for a High Wind Watch, effective from late Friday night through late Saturday night, October 9-10. The National Weather Service in Birmingham, AL, issued this alert at 11:07 PM CDT on October 8, warning of possible east winds at 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.
These severe winds could lead to downed trees and power lines, resulting in widespread power outages. Travel may also become difficult, particularly for high-profile vehicles. The High Wind Watch is in effect until 1:00 AM CDT on October 11.
Community members are advised to monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates. Before the winds begin, fasten any loose outdoor objects or move them to a secure location to prevent damage or injury.
