Strong Thunderstorms Near Anderson: Seek Shelter Indoors Now

A Special Weather Statement has been issued for Anderson, Laurens, and Southern Greenville counties until 6:15 PM EDT due to strong thunderstorms with wind gusts up to 40 mph and half-inch hail. Seek shelter indoors now.

Residents in Anderson, Laurens, and Southern Greenville counties are advised to seek shelter indoors immediately due to a Special Weather Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Greenville-Spartanburg SC.

As of 5:33 PM EDT today, September 20, Doppler radar is tracking a cluster of strong thunderstorms 12 miles northeast of Anderson, near West Pelzer, moving south at 15 mph. These storms are capable of producing wind gusts up to 40 mph and half-inch hail.

Impacted locations include Anderson, Piedmont, Belton, Williamston, West Pelzer, Donaldson Center, Powdersville, Homeland Park, Mauldin, and West Greenville. The NWS warns that gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to outdoor objects is also possible.

This Special Weather Statement is effective until 6:15 PM EDT today, September 20. If you are outdoors in the affected areas, consider seeking shelter inside a building for your safety.
