A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Covington County, including Andalusia and Opp, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile, effective immediately as of October 8 at 6:56 AM CDT. Tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours.

Residents should complete all preparations now. Peak winds are forecast between 25-35 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph, and a potential for winds reaching 58 to 73 mph. Expect significant impacts including damage to roofs and siding, downed trees, and scattered power outages. Unsecured objects can become dangerous projectiles.

A Flood Watch is also in effect with 3-6 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts. This poses a threat of major flooding, and evacuations and rescues are likely. Heed all flood watches and warnings immediately. The NWS indicates a favorable situation for several tornadoes, some potentially intense. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be prepared to shelter quickly.
