Beach Hazards Alert for San Diego, Orange County Coasts
A Beach Hazards Statement is in effect for San Diego and Orange County coastal areas until October 9, warning of dangerous rip currents and minor coastal flooding; residents should avoid swimming and prepare for potential road closures.
Residents and visitors in San Diego and Orange County coastal areas are advised to exercise extreme caution as a Beach Hazards Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service San Diego CA. This alert is effective immediately, October 6 at 12:58 PM PDT, and will remain in effect until October 9 at 11:00 PM PDT.
Dangerous rip currents are expected along all south- and southwest-facing beaches. Additionally, a Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect from 6 AM Wednesday to 11 AM PDT Friday, predicting minor coastal flooding. This may lead to flooding of low-lying lots, parks, and roads, with isolated road closures possible. Minor coastal erosion is also anticipated.
Elevated surf of 3-5 feet, with occasional sets up to 6 feet, is expected. High tides are projected to peak between 6.5 and 7.0 feet during morning and evening hours.
The National Weather Service strongly advises individuals to remain out of the water to avoid hazardous swimming conditions. If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Property owners in flood-prone areas should take necessary actions to protect their property.
