Southeast Polk Seniors SCIP Day Volunteers in Altoona
Hundreds of Southeast Polk High School seniors spent last week on community service projects across Altoona and surrounding areas as part of SCIP Day, the district's annual Senior Community Improvement Project.
Teams worked at more than a dozen sites. At Yellow Banks Park, students cleared invasive trees and brush for prairie restoration. At Copper Shores Village, teams delivered May baskets to residents. Other groups painted and landscaped at Runnells Park, Mitchellville City Park, Prairie Vista Village, and the Townsend Community Center. Students also picked up trash, maintained grounds, and performed general upkeep at the Altoona Campus, walking trails, dog park, nursing home, aquatic center, Copper Creek Golf Course, Copper Creek Lake Park, Caring Hands, and several elementary schools.
After the morning work, seniors gathered at Thomas Mitchell Park for lunch. The Altoona Lions Club and Hy-Vee provided the meal.
