Southeast Polk Schools End Year on Schedule Despite Snow
Staff Writer
June 11, 2026
Southeast Polk schools will dismiss for summer on May 28, 2026, as originally planned. The school board voted April 23 to waive 13 instructional hours lost to winter weather.
The district built a 28-hour buffer into its calendar by exceeding Iowa's minimum requirement of 1,080 instructional hours. Even after the two snow days, Southeast Polk will complete the year with 1,095 instructional hours, remaining 15 hours above state requirements.
The decision eliminates makeup days and allows families to proceed with summer plans unchanged.
