For us at ASPE specifically, we consider the implications for SP methodology. The ASPE Executive Committee started noticing a pattern of receiving emails from members wanting support and guidance around AI. In November of 2025, the ASPE Board of Directors approved a Steering Committee focused on AI and SP methodology in response to members seeking guidance from ASPE leadership on how to navigate changes brought about by AI technology. The charge of the Committee is to provide guidance, support and resources to ASPE membership. Outcomes expected are that simulation educators are empowered to be proactive in discussing new technologies in ways that bolster human simulation methodology. The Committee was formed from members who had reached out to the Executive Committee, as well as interested members of the ASPE Board of Directors. I am the current leader of this Committee. The first meetings were intended to be exploratory in nature. This is because the terrain is new, and we didn’t want to be prescriptive in a way that undercuts understanding the full breadth of what people are experiencing. We’ve also been talking about what we are noticing collectively and allowing structure to form along the way. We have established working groups to help develop deliverables for the community. One of those working groups is a toolkit group that has been working diligently to collect current tools and develop a living document for the community, one that will continuously update with the latest resources specifically useful for those working in SP methodology. Other projects that have sprung from this Steering Committee include a survey to the membership about AI and how it is being implemented, and a Thrive community which is one of our newest developments — more news to come as that unfolds. Dr. Lou Clark and I have done two webinars, one with Inspirational by Design® and one with HealthySimulation, on the topic of Human Simulation and AI considerations for the present and future. We have signed an affiliate agreement with the Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare Simulation Collaborative (AI-HCS) and are very excited to move forward with people who are thinking about these questions in the larger simulation community. We invite all members attending the conference to join us during the Conference where we will be presenting and discussing the work of this Steering Committee together. Please refer to the agenda for exact dates and times. If you are unable to attend, we want to hear from you as well. More information about how to engage will be coming soon. We have also been tracking the incredible work that our members are doing regarding AI, including book chapters, published articles, presentations, and other scholarship emerging from within our community. As this grows, we anticipate developing a more formal way to collect and celebrate that work. One of the things about the implementation of AI is that it is fast. I want to remind all of our members that one of the greatest attributes of this community is that we are flexible, highly generalizable, and ready to continue moving forward into the future. An example of this is when we started this Steering Committee. It was as much about tracking the work that was already being done as it was about identifying resources for the membership. That is another example of the power within this community. What has become clear is that the work of SP methodology, so highly focused on memory, attention, communication, and collaboration, has been building the exact skill set of a professional group who is ready to be at the front of the conversation regarding how humans and technology will interact in the future. Our goal is for ASPE to be recognized as such. Accreditation in Human Simulation

Accreditation in Human Simulation ABOUT ASPE'S ACCREDITATION IN HUMAN SIMULATION Background ASPE is the leading global organization on best practices in human simulation. Other simulation organizations have accreditation/endorsement pathways to recognize centers adhering to best practices (SSH, SESAM, INACSL). Developing an accreditation process would be a significant sustainability activity for ASPE, elevating SP programs worldwide and reaffirming our standing as the world’s most respected authority on human simulation. Vision As the global leader in human simulation, ASPE will provide a distinctive accreditation pathway for the recognition of programs and institutions that demonstrate an ongoing commitment and adherence to best practices in SP Methodology. Value of ASPE Accreditation Provides validation of meeting standards of practice by the global leader in human simulation Certificate of Accreditation to be provided to all accredited programs for display Accredited programs to be highlighted on ASPE’s website Adds additional support and expands on other accreditations/endorsements in simulation (SSH, ACS, INACSL) Represents an SP program’s commitment to quality educational programming and assessments, thus ensuring ongoing quality control Demonstrates assurance to institutions that learners are receiving the highest quality SP-based educational programming and assessments Verifies commitment to transparency to all stakeholders and institutions of an SP program’s policies and procedures Authenticates quality programming for future learners and future stakeholders, enhancing the program’s reputation Supports home institution’s higher educational accreditation pathways (LCME, CCNE, ACEN) Provides essential guidance to new SP programs or existing SP programs on how to conduct operations in accordance with Standards of Best Practice Reinforces commitment to the utmost safety of the work, learning, and assessment environment Demonstrates commitment to SPs to adhere to best practices in all on-boardings, trainings, and all work-related activities Aids in justifying the ever-evolving needs of programs (equipment, staff, SP pool, P&Ps, professional development, etc.) Impact of Vision on ASPE Reinforces ASPE as the global leader in human simulation Expands global recognition and adherence to ASPE Standards of Best Practice Increases institutional membership in ASPE Adds an additional layer of professional development for membership by ASPE Establishes an important active collaboration between ASPE and SP centers, educational programs, and/or institutions of higher learning that adhere to best practices in SP methodology Creates impactful revenue stream for ASPE with minimal cost to implement (100% online process) 2026 Accreditation Application and Guidelines Resources This webinar was recorded on October 8, 2025.
