Guilderland Schools Win National Music Education Award
The Guilderland Central School District has been named one of the nation's Best Communities for Music Education by the NAMM Foundation, the district's 16th such recognition.
The award honors school districts that demonstrate strong funding, participation, instructional time, facilities and community involvement in music education. More than 2,000 students participate in music programs each year, with instruction beginning in kindergarten and continuing through high school in band, orchestra, chorus and advanced performance ensembles.
Students perform in schools and throughout the community and compete at regional and state levels through NYSSMA and NYSBDA.
"This recognition reflects the daily work happening in our classrooms and rehearsal spaces," said Robert Winans, instructional administrator for fine and performing arts. "Seeing students grow in confidence, creativity and collaboration through music is incredibly rewarding."
The district will build new choral, band and orchestra rooms at Guilderland High School as part of a 2025 capital project approved by voters. Winans said the dedicated spaces will enhance instruction and provide environments that support the growing music programs.
