Red Flag Warning Issued for Region: High Fire Danger Today
A Red Flag Warning is in effect today, October 10, 2026, from 11 AM to 9 PM PDT for Southern Mono, Sierra Front, West Humboldt, and Lahontan Basins due to high winds and low humidity, prompting residents to avoid fire-starting activities.
A Red Flag Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno, effective today, October 10, 2026, from 11 AM PDT until 9 PM PDT. Residents in affected areas should take immediate precautions to prevent wildfires.
This warning applies to Southern Mono County; the Northern Sierra Front (Carson City, Douglas, Storey, Southern Washoe, Western Lyon, and Far Southern Lassen Counties); the Southern Sierra Front (Alpine, Northern Mono, Southern Lyon, and Western Mineral Counties); the West Humboldt Basin (Pershing County); and the Lahontan Basin (Churchill and Eastern Mineral Counties).
The NWS reports that southwest winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 to 45 mph are expected. Minimum relative humidity will range between 14 to 22 percent for 3 to 6 hours. These conditions create an environment where fires can rapidly grow in size and intensity.
To protect your community, avoid any outdoor activities that could cause a spark near dry vegetation. This includes yard work, target shooting, and campfires. Follow all local fire restrictions. For ongoing updates, visit weather.gov/reno, and for preparedness tips, consult livingwithfire.info.
