Laketown Township Adopts First Purchasing Policy

The Laketown Township Board of Trustees adopted the township's first purchasing policy on April 8, setting spending thresholds and bidding requirements for department heads and supervisors.
Department heads may spend up to $10,000 on budgeted supplies, materials, equipment and services with township manager approval. Purchases between $5,000 and $10,000 require at least two written price quotations. Items from $10,000 to $20,000 require competitive bids to the manager. Purchases exceeding $20,000 need manager authorization for competitive or sealed bids, then board approval.
The board approved a lease purchase agreement for a new pumper-tanker truck for the Graafschap Fire Department at a cost not to exceed $665,859.
Trustees postponed a decision on public transportation funding until August. Supervisor Steven Ringelberg said residents are circulating a petition to place Interurban Transportation Authority funding on the ballot.
The board approved a resolution opposing state bills that would restrict local control over zoning, land divisions and elections. Trustees also rezoned 6381 146th Ave. from R-1 Rural Estate District to R-2 Low Density Residential District.
In closed session, the board approved a $5,250 incentive payment to Manager Stephanie Fox.
