TALLAPOOSA COUNTY – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Tallapoosa County, specifically impacting Alexander City and Dadeville. This warning is effective immediately, as of October 9 at 6:57 PM CDT, and expires on October 10 at 3:00 AM UTC. Residents in affected areas should act now to complete preparations.
Strong winds are expected, with peak gusts potentially reaching 50 mph. This could lead to limited damage to property such as porches, awnings, and unanchored mobile homes. Expect many large tree limbs to break and scattered power and communication outages. Hazardous driving conditions are possible, especially on elevated roadways.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. An additional 1-3 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, could cause moderate flooding. This may prompt evacuations and rescues, as rivers and small streams could overflow. Floodwaters may enter structures and cause road and bridge closures. Residents should heed any flood watches and warnings.
The NWS reports that the tornado threat is currently unfavorable. For more information and safety instructions, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
