Orleans County DSS Launches AI Assistant to Answer Temporary Assistance Calls

Orleans County Department of Social Services will launch EVA, an AI-powered virtual phone assistant, Monday, March 16, to handle calls about the Temporary Assistance program.

The system answers basic questions about office locations, hours and phone numbers, freeing caseworkers to spend more time helping families in need. EVA detects callers' native languages and responds in kind, removing language barriers for residents seeking support.

"EVA can quickly provide the necessary information to callers without them having to navigate through multiple layers," said Cyndi Stumer, Deputy Commissioner of DSS.

To reach EVA, call 585-589-7000 and press 4. The system operates during regular business hours.
