Residents in Montgomery, Schenectady, Southern Saratoga, Western Albany, Eastern Albany, and Western Rensselaer counties are advised to seek shelter indoors as gusty showers are moving through the area. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Albany has issued a Special Weather Statement, effective immediately until 12:45 PM EDT today, October 5, 2026.

At 11:54 AM EDT, Doppler radar detected gusty showers near Amsterdam, tracking eastward at 45 mph. These showers are capable of producing wind gusts up to 40 mph. The NWS warns that these winds could knock down tree limbs and displace unsecured objects.

Locations impacted include major population centers such as Albany, Schenectady, Troy, Clifton Park, and Amsterdam, along with numerous other communities. Several key highways are also affected, including portions of Interstates 88, 890, 787, the Adirondack Northway, and the New York State Thruway. If you are currently outdoors in these areas, please consider moving inside a building for your safety.
