A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for Southwestern Otero County, NM until 4:45 PM MDT with 60 mph wind gusts and potential for flash flooding; seek immediate shelter.
A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Southwestern Otero County in south-central New Mexico, effective immediately until 4:45 PM MDT today, September 29. The National Weather Service in El Paso Tx/Santa Teresa NM advises residents to seek immediate shelter.
At 4:06 PM MDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 9 miles northeast of Orogrande, moving northeast at 25 mph. This storm is capable of producing 60 mph wind gusts, which can cause damage to roofs, siding, and trees.
Locations impacted include Timberon, Orogrande, Bug Scuttle Ranch, The Otero Mesa, and Oro Grande Range Complex.
Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. For your protection, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Remain alert for a possible tornado; if you spot one, go at once into a basement or small central room in a sturdy structure.
