The National Weather Service in El Paso Tx/Santa Teresa NM issued this warning at 1:52 PM MDT. A severe thunderstorm was located over Tularosa, moving northeast at 35 mph, and is producing 60 mph wind gusts, according to radar indications. Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Torrential rainfall is also occurring, which may lead to flash flooding.
Locations impacted include Mescalero, Tularosa, Three Rivers, Alamogordo, White Sands National Park, Bent, Burro Flats, High Rolls, La Luz, Mountain Park, Holloman Air Force Base, Upper Nogal Canyon, Lower Nogal Canyon, Laborcita Canyon, and Alamorosa. This warning also covers Highway 54 in New Mexico between mile markers 70 and 97.
For your protection, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Remain alert for a possible tornado; if one is spotted, go at once into the basement or small central room in a sturdy structure. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
