Lake City Reseeds Wabasha Athletic Complex Outfields

Lake City crews hydro-seeded the outfields at the Wabasha Athletic Complex on Monday after winter weather prevented grass from establishing following fall repairs.
The City regraded and reseeded the outfields last fall using dormant seeding, a technique that plants seeds before winter dormancy. Warm weather followed by cold temperatures and snow in early spring damaged seed establishment, leaving bare patches.
The contractor began hydro-seeding work on May 4. The City expects the contractor to complete the repairs at no cost as part of the construction contract warranty.
City officials cannot guarantee the grass will fully establish before the baseball season begins. The City acknowledges the field conditions will create scheduling challenges for teams and said it remains committed to completing the work.
