The Miami Shores Village Police Department is seeking dedicated and qualified individuals for the position of Police Officer (Certified). Under general supervision, performs a variety of routine and complex public safety work in the enforcement of laws and ordinances, for the protection of life and property, and for the prevention of crime. Employees in this class are responsible for the efficient performance of varied duties designed to protect the lives and property of the Village populace through the enforcement of laws and ordinances. Assignments are received from a superior officer, however, employees are expected to exercise initiative and discretion in meeting emergencies and in handling routine matters. Work involves an element of personal danger. Work is reviewed through reports, inspections and observations. Performs other related work as required. Minimum Requirements: * Be at least twenty (20) years of age. * Be a United States Citizen. * Have a high school diploma or its equivalent, plus the completion of a full-time curriculum in a police standards and training council approved police academy. * Must possess a valid State of Florida driver's license. * Must be able to successfully pass a thorough background investigation, medical examination, psychological evaluation and polygraph. * Must not have been convicted of any felony or a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude or making a false statement. * Must not have received a dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States. * Must be able to meet the physical requirements for the position.
